Aurora Coffee and the New Recipe!

I met with the one of the owners, Mark Basehore, and the assistant manager Nina of Aurora Coffee in Virginia Highlands today.  It was a great visit and very informative.  The presentation of my product line went well enough but I really must get together a more complete press kit to take with me to these interviews!  Also I would like the process to be more fluid starting with the products, the way they are made, the samples and finally the merchandising and pricing.

I let them taste test samples of the new recipes that I am working on.  They seemed to like them.  I think the Peanut Butter Snaps are almost done!  Here are some pictures that I took of them!

Integrating Cookie Cutters??

I really like the idea of having an associated shape with each type of cookie!  For the lemon snaps I really want a unicorn, and for the ginger snaps, I want a t-rex.  I'm unsure what to align with the peanut butter and the possible chocolate snaps.  I need more epic animals to come to mind!  Here are some pics of some possible cookie cutters and the companies.  I like the idea of buying some nice hand made ones that look totally badass!

Here is The Little Fox Factories animal inventory!

Here's a unicorn from the Copper Cookie Cutter Store!

Oooo-ooo, this one too!

Aha!  Here's the dino-REX!

Okay, back to baking for now.

Coconut Oil: A main ingredient in my recipes

The choice to use coconut oil obviously has nothing to do with cost, as the price is triple or more  the price of vegetable, canola, or butter.  In truth it was a personal decision based on the fact that I love the taste of coconut.  I had also heard that it was very good for you.  From all facts that I've collected so far, I would say that it appears to be true.  Like most things I think it's important to not over do it, but in managed quantities it is said to have anti-aging properties, anti-cancer abilities, thyroid stimulating thus weight loss possibilities, and it is a saturated fat that may actually break down more healthfully in your body than other oils.

If all this is true, well it sure would make me feel much better about the cost but beyond that, I think really do think it's the coconut oil that gives these little "yum nuggets" their extremely unique texture and taste!  It also extends the shelf life, which you will never hear me complain about!  Here's a link to check out.  I'm not sure who's in charge of this site so it could be rather biased in favor of coconut oil (its in the title!) but its probably a good place to start if you are interested in knowing more!

Coconut OIL

Snap addict at Javalords!

My first location for sales, Javalords in Little Five Points, is going great, with my first week selling out of cookies!  I made some new presentation trays and now the set up looks like this!

I've had many conversations about the cookies.  So far people like the chewiness but always point out that they are supposed to be crisp.  I wonder if the misnomer is slightly unsettling to them.  I will be approaching many coffee shops in the coming weeks as part of my first stage of sales efforts.

If I don't get enough sales per month to equal my cost (break even point), then I will have to go out of business!  The cookies are good!  If they don't sell, I don't think I have anyone to blame but myself.  That is why I've been working none stop to figure out ways to bring them to the public!
